The quince tree reaches 4 to 6 meters, flowers in May and June and has white to gently pink coloured blossoms. The petals are 2 to 5 cm long. As a thermophile plant it is favoured to be cultivated in viticultural-regions.
Quince fruits — are apple- or pear-shaped, depending on the variety — their appearance is unfortunately still not very well-known to the younger ones. Even though one could probably say that they are the prototype of our fruit. Ripely they shine like lemons and their marvelous scent can be smelled far away. Since it is not a fruit to bite into, only connoisseurs and enthusiasts usually esteem to their versatility.
The harvest time begins at the end of September and lasts, depending upon weather and variety, until end of November or beginning of December.
Quinces can be stored for 2 months in cold cellars.
