Fruit – Vegetable – Tropical Fruits

Asia and Europe.
The quince tree reaches 4 to 6 meters, flowers in May and June and has white to gently pink coloured blooms. The petals are 2 to 5 cms long. As a thermophile plant it is favoured to be cultivated in viticultural-regions.
Quince fruits in their — depending upon variety apple- or pear-shaped — appearance today unfortunately are still hardly well-known to the younger ones. Even though one could say nearly, they are the prototype of our fruit. Ripely they shine like lemons and flow their marvelous smell far away. Since it is not a fruit to bite into, often only connoisseurs and enthusiasts esteem their versatility.
The harvest time begins at the end of Septembers and lasts, depending upon weather and variety, until end of November or beginnig of December.
Quinces store well for 2 months in cold cellars.
