In around 1890 the Golden Delicious was discovered as a coincidence seedling in a back yard in west Virginia, USA. Today it is cultivated worldwide.
The skin of the apples shade varies from green-yellow to golden. Fruits produced in hilly locations are characterised by their typical red cheek. The apples are medium to large and conical shaped.
The taste of Golden Delicious characterizes itself as juicy, sweet, aromatic and finely acidic.
They are ready in the middle of September.
They may be eaten raw, but they are also well suited to baking and cooking, in addition to being used in many desserts, fruit salads, strudels and sweets, cocktails and compotes.
