Origin

The Elstar originally originates from Holland and came out there 1955 from a cross breeding of Golden Delicious and Ingrid Marie. It became spread in the middle of the 1980’s particularly in Holland, Belgium, in the area round the Lake of Constance and in South Tyrol.

Fruit

The Elstar is a medium sized, round apple of regular form. It has a bright-red marbled to washed-out opaque colour on yellow base. Flesh is medium hard and firm.

Flavour

Its flavour is spicy fruity, juicy and with pleasantly refreshing acid.

Maturity

At the end of August.

Storage

In cold storage to in the middle of November, in CA storage until the end of March.

Recommendation

The Elstar is suitable not only outstanding for fresh consumption but also for fruit salads, desserts, strudels, cakes and compotes.
