Bowl Fruit – Nuts

Bowl fruit is a comprehensive term for all kinds of fruit that have a core surrounded by a hard and usually woody paring. A further intercommunity of these fruits is dispositional in the the fact, that only the core but not the pulp is edible.

Most nuts are imported from the Orient, Brazil, North America or the Mediterranean and usually come into the market vacuum-packed and roasted. They must be protected against heat, light and humidity.

Nuts consist of almost 70 % fat, but this is mainly unsaturated fatty acid. Further ingredients are protein, valuable minerals and vitamins — vitamin E in particular.

According to customs and usage, the following are categorised as shell fruit: cashew nuts, peanuts, chestnuts, hazelnuts, coconuts, macadamia nuts, almonds, brazil nuts, pekans, pine nuts, pistachios and walnuts.
